Good Morning Sunshine

After days and days of rain and clouds, the sun has finally shone on Kashgar. Know to have hot, dry and sunny weather beginning at the end of May, Kashgar has felt very strange this year. Last year, this time we were being scorched by the very intense heat of the Kashgar sun. We walked in the shade when we could and were careful to limit how much time we spent in the sun. Yogurt and ice cream breaks helped us to get through each desert weathered day.

This year the weather has been very strange. The sand storms were unusually strong. Although we closed all the windows and doors in our flat, after returning from a week holiday, we found the place full of dirt and dust. It took us a few days to clean out all the corners and under the beds. People in Kashgar were also quite affected by the weather. Normally a friendly and cheery city (possibly because of all the sunshine), it seemed like the gray weather and rain was bringing every down. The city has been out of spirits and businesses have been suffering.
Today the sun is bright and happily looking down on all the residents of Kashgar. Hopefully this will be a trend…it is summertime after all! The city thrives on visitors and outdoor activities. But, these are limited when the weather is so bad. With more sunshine comes more activity.

Today at least we know that Kashgar city will be happy.
